About Us

The 7Saba Fest Cultural Extravaganza ‘Sanjo ya Busiya’

Ntemi (Chief) of the historic Kingdom of Busiya in Shinyanga, Tanzania is the son of Chief David Kidaha Makwaia (O.B.E) and Mary-Louise Mackeja (First Secretary General of the Tanzania Red Cross).

Ntemi Edward Ng’hwaya Kidaha Makwaia II

Chief Makwaia has over 30 years of senior management experience in the Central Bank of Tanzania; and, has worked as part of management teams in major collaboration projects of the SADC (South African Development Community) and the EAC (East African Community) Central Banks. Upon retirement, Chief Makwaia pursued his passion on the Busiya culture and development of its people. This calling came at a moment he felt he can further the legacy of his father and fore fathers.

Chief Makwaia seeks to encourage practices that enhance stronger cultural identity self-awareness; traditional values preservation; and, welfare advancement for the people of Tanzania. He continues to pursue his aspiration by integrating and collaborating with traditional leaders, the Government, and development partners at all opportunities. One of the highlights of his efforts is the 7SabaFEST celebration --a live traditional cultural extravaganza occurring every year in July that is unique for Tanzania.

In Tanzania, Chiefs wield no formal ruler-commander powers. However, the authority of a Chief is in his acceptability –in being held in the highest regard by his people as their regal supreme principal symbol and genuine traditional custodian of their cultural heritage identity and traditional values. The committed passion of Chief Makwaia and the support he developed from his people has resulted into an unparalleled revival of traditions and culture of the historical Chiefdom! With this backdrop, Chief Makwaia is focusing on nurturing the cultural heritages of his historical Chiefdom determined to realize a vision of a community leading for having a strong cultural identity and excelling in offering unmatched cultural experiences for the benefit of its culture, people and tourism in the country.

Chief Makwaia serves on the ASMK Foundation Board of Directors in Tanzania, a foundation that is dedicated to improve the: Quality of education; Conservation of the environment; Health and water provision for the disenfranchised rural community; and, Integration of culture in the economic livelihood of its people. Chief Makwaia holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of East Anglia, UK and University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania respectively.
